About the Trager Foundation
The Trager Foundation was named for Dr. Milton Trager, M.D., one of the original pioneers of somatic movement therapy. Somatic movement practice and/or somatic movement therapy recognizes the importance of the inherent connection between the body and the brain, often referred to as ‘body-mind.
The word ‘somatic’ comes from the Greek word ‘soma,’ meaning living body. Since Dr. Trager’s time, many somatic practices have developed specific, unique approaches to this known connection between the body and the brain, finding often astounding changes in physical limitations when movement is combined with conscious awareness of that movement. Similarly, felt changes in the body affect mental and emotional state.
Below are links and information about several of these somatic practices.
